Man Overboard (MOB) Beacons

MOB beacons are designed to provide signals to local vessels to assist recovery of a person in the water. Modern solutions comprise a alerting signal via VHF DSC, which will trigger an alarm on nearby VHF radios. Additionally a GPS location is transmitted via AIS every minute to show up up on compatible plotters. Unlike PLBs, these beacons are permitted to be activated automatically – usually triggered by lifejacket inflation.
